• The First Show in Phoenix

    February 8, 2008 - Comments (7)

I’m backstage right now, listening to tobyMac finish up his set. I’m really tired right now. It’s been a long day. Flew from Nashville to Phoenix at 7, which meant I woke up at 4:30. Plus, it’s a different time zone out here. So, basically I’m spent right now.

The show was fun. First show of the tour is always an interesting thing. It takes a few shows for me to really settle in on most tours. But the crowd tonight made sure I settled in by the time my set was over. It never gets old hearing a crowd of that size sing the words to one of my songs.

Tonight I miss my Lulu and Emily. It sinks in that I will be away from my girls for the next 10 days. That’s not a happy thought, but it’s true.

But I know there is a reason for why I am on the road. I hope and pray that even one person’s heart was impacted by the concert tonight. If that happens, then this tour is worth it. God has a way of making life worth it when we are in His will.

The concert last night was great. You were great! It was amazing. Your cd was the first christian cd I bought. I can’t wait to buy the new cd.

My husband and I went to the concert in Phoenix….we drove all the way from Tucson just to see YOU and had so much fun watching you but were SO sad that you didn’t play for very long!! Luckly we saw you twice at Spirit West Coast (in cali) in 2006 and we got to meet you! You are the most gifted song writer we’ve heard and are blessed by your songs tremendously!!

Matthew, I Gotta say you are one of my favorite artists! I first heard you back in the day when “More” came out, that was and still is my favorite song. I got to see you in Phoenix the other day, and it was awesome but I too was bummed that your spot was so short, but not matter how short, it was great. I had no idea about your voice and all that and it hit home for me. I’m with a traveling singing ministry, I’m in my 3rd year with them. I have been a blessed singer for all my life, until the last few years. I have begun to lose my hearing, it’s hereditary from my mother. I still sing well for the most part, but nothing like I used to. I understand to an extent the pains you have gone through, and it helps seeing how God has worked in your life, and seeing that I’m not alone when God takes away our best attribute and most times something we love doing so much. Keep on man! I love your songs, they are so real. love you bro!!

Matthew, It was worth it. That concert has changed my walk with God. I grew up in the chruch, a grandkid of my Pastor, so I’ve always known God, but that fire, that flame that everyone talks about, it was always missing for me. the last two years have been hard, for many reasons, but listening to you, and Jeremy and Toby that flame it ignighted! I’ve lived everyday since that night in Phoenix with a renewed dedication for God, His word, and His son. It’s amazing, thrilling and so humbling. So, i can understand how hard it is to be away from your family (i have a 5yr old son) But letme tell ya, It’s So Worth It. Thank you for all you do, the dedication that you show in how you live your live has sparked mine.

My son and daughter love your music. Everytime you are close to our hometown they cannot wait to see you. Their favorite is Open Wide My Heart. They would play it all day if I would let them. Keep up the excellent work!! God Bless.
