Whirlwind
September 5, 2009 - Comments (13)Yesterday was a whirlwind. The band and I flew into Philadelphia in the morning, drove an hour and a half to Revelation Generation Festival and played a show. This was my first time at that festival. It was beautiful out there. Then, right after the show we headed straight back to the airport and flew back home. It was nice to be back in my own bed after the show… In my mind, our commercial flight on US Air was a private plane… A boy can dream, can’t he?
Anyway, Today, me and Lulu have had breakfast in bed, a pillow fight, read the same book twice, and now we’re going for a walk. That’s how a great day begins. Tonight, I’m going to be in the studio recording some acoustic versions of “The Motions” and “Save A Place For Me.” Those will be on a special release of Something to Say this Christmas that I will keep you posted about. Then the bus rolls at midnight to Atlanta. We’re playing at the Atlanta Braves game, post game concert. Should be a blast. You know I love my baseball. What a fitting way to close out the summer shows. Have a great Labor Day weekend

It’s definitely a whirlwind, but it could be worse, there could have been a couple more concerts tossed into the same amount of hours.

Question: Do you (Matt) stick around after the show for fans to meet you and get a picture/autograph? I’ll be at your St. Louis show Oct. 16 at the Church on the Rock and wanted to be prepared if you do that. Thanks.

Yikes! I didn’t realize you flew into PHILLY…eek! We do that drive…well, too often.
Glad you all had awesome weather for the concert, Genna was sorry we couldn’t get there…she just played cds instead! (well, yours and a “Broadway Kids” cd that about has me ready to jump out the window, but that’s another story!).
Hope your travels are safe, baseball is awesome & a great way to “wind down” the summer!
wishing you peace always,
Kristin, Genna’s mom

Chris – Matthew did take pictures after a recent concert in Michigan – I suspect it’s a function of the size of the venue – that is, smaller ones I think he does!

I was working the parking lot at Revelation Generation (about a quarter mile from the stage). When you did the sound check with the opening piano part of “You Are Everything,” I got really psyched! That really kicked off RevGen 2009 as far as I was concerned! I could hear your music pretty well. It was the first time I heard you live. Thanks a lot for the music!

Hey. I’m thirteen years old. I go to First Family Church and today I heard that we are trying to get you to come to our church (forgive me if I am misunderstanding
). I reallywould like it if you did come. I know you are busy with your tour and all, but I think it would be awesome if you came. And if we could stay in touch.

Your show in Atlanta was great last night! Thanks for orchestrating such a worshipful, meaningful concert! Our 6 yr. old was anxiously awaiting your concert so she was getting weary in the 11th inning of the game. She said “Mom, it’s the 11th inning, they need to hit a home run and end this thing!” (too bad the wrong team ended it) Our 8 yr. old said she felt it was a powerful evening and that God was surrounding Turner Field (thanks to you). Keep up the good work! We’ll come see you when you’re in this area next time. Thanks Again! The Allen Family

I am not savy about music, I depend on my daughter and wife for the names of the artists. I was at Rev Gen this year and I sat on the grass for your openning. Brother, thank you for your committment to Jesus Christ. It was a wonderful time of worship! THANKS

I won tickets from the Christian Station for the Atlanta Braves game and your concert. I was so blessed! My whole family went. We love baseball anyway (even though we lost in 12 innings) but came home singing, so excited because of the concert. You have such a gift of writing just what my heart is crying out to God. Thank you for using it for His glory. PS. I won’t tell anyone that you wore a Braves hat singing the special song for us!
Did you do the tomahawk chop too?

Matthew,
A very special thank you from my family to yours. We were moved beyond words hearing your music live after the Braves Game last night. Our kids are 4, 5, and 6. It was their first Braves game and first concert. My little girls were on their feet the entire time singing and dancing. See…. even the kids know you rock with a message. Your band and the entire promotion team did a wonderful thing for many folks in Atanta last night. (My little boy slept through the whole thing….what can I say. I tried to wake him up. I kept saying, “Look at the guy in the black shirt, his name is Matthew, he is really famous because he writes and sings special songs about Jesus.” He said, “I’m sorry, Mom, it was all the chopping, clapping, and charging stuff with my hands. It made me really tired.”

RevGev was fantastic! Your performance was great! My kids were so excited that they knew most of the songs you played. Too bad you had to zip off so soon after the show. I hope you at least got that cheesesteak before you had to go.
