Take Me Out To The Ball Game
September 7, 2009 - Comments (6)This weekend in Atlanta was really something special. I love playing shows close enough to Nashville that my girls can join me. So Emily drove down the Saturday morning with the girls, and we got to spend the day together at the ball park. Lulu had an absolute blast. The Braves were kind enough to put all of us in a sky box, which is something I dreamed of when I was a kid. “I wonder who those people are sitting up in those sky boxes,” I used to think when we would go to the ball games… Now I was one of those people. It’s the little things, folks. Anyway, the Braves looked like they were going to win 2-1, but the Reds tied it up late in the game, and it sent the game into extra innings… I began to worry that the crowd wouldn’t last through a 4 1/2 hour game and a concert. But finally, after 12 innings the game came to a close, unfortunately a Braves loss. But, much to my surprise the crowd stuck around for the concert and we had an amazing time singing inside the stadium. I even got to run out of the dugout when they introduced me. This was as close to one of my dreams coming true as I’ll ever get. The only thing missing was my uniform and my baseball glove. But it’s all good.
Earlier in the morning, I was asked to sing at the Braves chapel service before the game. I sang, “The Motions” and we had an incredible time with the team’s chaplain with prayer and devotions. Me being a huge baseball fan, only made that cooler because we got to hang out and pray with some of the players. I was so impressed by guys like Matt Diaz and Javier Vasquez. They shared their testimonies before the game. It was awesome to see these players using their platform to share about their faith.
So, thanks to Atlanta and the Braves for a great day. Hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend

Matthew,
The concert was great! I always enjoy seeing you live and this time was able to introduce my girlfriend to your music. “The Motions” is still the one song I want to define my life. Thanks for writing and performing it so well!

Matthew,
We were at the ballgame / concert. You are such a blessing with your testimony and your music. We were over to your left as you were facing the crowd. I wanted to come running down the isle. You were talking about being a Chicago Cubs fan…we are too…..we moved down here 3 years ago cause God said GO…..If you pray, here am I God send me…and he says Go….you better go! Anyway, I had on a t-shirt that said “LUGNUTS” they are a division of the Cubs… I was gonna come running your way, but I’m 60 years young and I thought they may have me arrested! Now, I’m wishing I had gone with my gut and just did it!
Having said all of that, I want to say “thank you” you have ministered to me soooo many times. “Motions” has changed me dramatically. You know, it’s not just the word of God and the Bible that preaches! May God Bless you ABUNDANTLY, more than you could EVER think ask or imagine. My husband and I LOVE YOU MATTHEW….thank you for sharing your gift. You have returned with a testimony and your voice restored 100 fold….GOD BLESS…
We LOVE YOU

Dear Matthew,
My fiance and I randomly decided to go to the Braves game last weekend and drove 4 hours to get there. To our absolute surprise, we heard the announcement that you were singing after the game,…..and then we knew why we were really there
I am one who had literally been late for college this summer, just from sitting in the car crying and singing along with your song, “Motions!” It is my heart’s cry and I am so happy you found the words that so many of us have wanted to say. Everytime I hear it, it absolutely grabs my heart and engages me into immediate prayer to God to help me with my everyday life. I just want to thank you so much,….I was so proud to be at that game even though the Braves lost,…..lol. Our wedding is November 14th and we have selected the song, “When I Say I Do” to sing to each other.
Thank you again and again and again. May God bless you and your family more than you could ever imagine! <3

Wow. That’s amazing! I’m a huge Braves fan…and an even bigger one now. I can’t wait to see you in McAlester in October, Matthew. Ryan would be SO happy to have the whole area together to worship the Lord. Miss you, Ryan! See you soon, Matthew!
