Here are the lyrics to a song I wrote… Fitting for today… I posted the audio on myspace.com/matthewwest. You can hear it by clicking on the audio player in the sidebar.

Here comes the letdown Christmas is over
Here comes the meltdown there goes the cheer
but before we have a breakdown let us remember
the Light of the World is still here

    So, Happy Day After Christmas
    Merry rest of the year
    Even when Christmas is over
The Light of the World is still here

Come January I’m ready for summer
Super bowl’s over, I’ll settle for spring
sometimes we all need a change in the weather
but it won’t change the reason we sing

    Happy Day After Christmas
    Merry rest of the year
    Even when Christmas is over
The Light of the World is still here

So take down the stockings, take back the sweaters
take down the lights and the star and the tree
But don’t let this world take your joy after Christmas
Take joy to the world and just sing

    Happy Day After Christmas
    Merry rest of the year
    Even when Christmas is over
The Light of the World is still here

Love this!! I’ve been writing a series about “the Fringe” on my site, and today I finished that with “Removing The Fringe” which is in keeping with this same idea. Thank you for reminding all of us that the Lord is in our lives all year even though Christmas lasts only a day.

I really like the lyrics to this can’t wait to hear it! And yeah that’s exactly how I feel after Christmas haha just ready for Spring and Summer but your lyrics really made me think. This is great and amidst all this holiday stuff, decorating the tree, (undecorating considering that Christmas is now over) presents, ect ect it is absolutely essential to remember Jesus through the season for He is the reason for it all. He is the hope of the season of hope and without Him there is nothing. And thank you so much I’ve been going through some storms recently and Christmas and the holiday cheer just lightens everything up then it is gone and it seems like you have nothing again even though that I already knew that Jesus is always there with us not just during Christmas. I want to thank you so much for that reminder that He is still here and He is still with us even after the holiday is over! I really needed that! And now I can continue to go on and remember this from day to day no matter what I am going through because Jesus is always there and it is Him that we must place our hope and trust in, esspecially during the difficult times! I absolutely love your music you’re great (and I’m sure you hear that a lot) but keep on going I think what you are doing is great and you are really glorifying God and His Kingdom and cause through what you are doing and that is truly the meaning of it all! Way to go!

love it – great writing and sentiment … really enjoyed seeing you at the 60 days of service tribute here. We have your book and my Mom used it as part of her Christmas letter to challenge our family to focus on the giving of Christmas … very well received and enjoyed by all. Our kids got into it too. KTIS has been playing a lot of “Christmas Makes me Cry” – well done. Wishing you a joy-filled New Year filled with God’s goodness.
