Happy Valentine’s Day! I have released 2 new songs today that are part of a contest I did w/ KLOVE. We collected over 8 thousand stories, and once again I had the task of selecting one story to write a song inspired by. I wound up writing 2. This morning, we played the song on KLOVE for the first time for the winners (and millions of listeners around the country.) I’ve had several requests for lyrics, so I have posted them here along with the stories that inspired them.

Today, you can send a special valentine using “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” by clicking here.

    I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING
    By MATTHEW WEST
HAD A PICTURE IN MY HEAD
OF HOW I THOUGHT IT OUGHTTA GO
BUT LOOK WHO SHOWED UP INSTEAD
    TURNS OUT YOU NEVER KNOW

LOVE WILL STEAL YOU BY SURPRISE
TAKE YOUR HEART JUST LIKE A THIEF
LOVE CAN BRING A STUBBORN MAN
    DOWN TO ONE KNEE

    CHORUS
    I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING
    IT’S PERFECTLY IMPERFECT
SO CRAZY BUT IT’S WORTH IT
I’M WRAPPED AROUND YOU LIKE THIS RING
AND SOMETHING TELLS ME EVEN IF I COULD
    I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING
    V2
LOVE WILL SHOW YOU WHAT YOU LACK
LOVE WILL LAUGH AT ALL YOUR PLANS
AND IF YOUR HEART WON’T GIVE IT BACK
LOVE WILL SLIP RIGHT THROUGH YOUR HANDS

HEAVEN KNOWS WE’VE HAD OUR SHARE
OF DAYS WE’D RATHER LEAVE BEHIND
BUT LOVE DON’T REALLY SEEM TO CARE
IT MAKES THE WRONG TURNS TURN RIGHT
    CHORUS
    BRIDGE
    I’M TRULY, DEEPLY, MADLY, COMPLETELY
DEVOTED EVERY MOMENT UNTIL MY LAST BREATH I’M YOURS
    V3
I GOT A PICTURE IN MY HEAD
    A HUNDRED YEARS FROM NOW
ALL OUR LINES HAVE ALL BEEN READ
AND WE’RE BOTH UP THERE LOOKING DOWN

Dear Scott, God blessed me more than I ever deserved when He brought you into my life. You have relentlessly showed me unconditional love, unshakable faith, and proof that love can indeed bear all things, believe all things, hope all things and endure all things. When you looked into my eyes and said “I do” 23 years ago, I’m sure you had no idea how incredibly bumpy life together would be. I’ve been continually blessed by your steadfast devotion toward me and toward God. You had faith in me when I had none. You called me beautiful when I felt unattractive. You forgave me when I was undeserving. You have, time and again, sacrificed when I was unworthy. When we faced infertility, you–without hesitation–opted for adoption and made me the mother of two beautiful and amazing girls. And when our family grew from two to four and your family turned away from us, you did not mire in anger, but led us forward with strength and determination despite your own grief. You have been my anchor, my soft place to fall. This year, we’ll have been together for 25 years! Renewing our vows means more to me than words could ever express. I pray that God will bless us with at least another 25 years together, so every day, every minute, every moment until I take my very last breath I can show you how much I deeply respect, admire, love and adore you. Thank you.

    WHEN LOVE COMES HOME
    By MATTHEW WEST

TOO MANY MILES, TOO MANY DAYS
TOO MANY MOONLIGHTS HAVE DANCED ACROSS YOUR FACE
WITHOUT ME HOLDING YOU, OH HOW I WISH I COULD
BUT WHEN LOVE COMES IT WILL BE FOR GOOD

TOO MANY FRONT LINES TOO MANY WARS
PICTURES OF YOU REMIND ME WHAT I’M FIGHTING FOR
FOR OUR FREEDOM I MUST SEE THIS THROUGH
    BUT WHEN LOVE COMES HOME
    IT WILL BE TO YOU
    CHORUS
    I’M COMING HOME
    COMING HOME
SO LET THE LIGHT INSIDE YOU BURN
WITH THE HOPE OF LOVE’S RETURN
    I’M COMING HOME
    V2
FOR TEAR STAINED LETTERS AND THE HARD GOODBYES
FOR EVERY CHRISTMAS THAT I WASN’T BY YOUR SIDE
FOR ALL THE LOST TIME ALONG THE WAY (HEAR ME SAY)
(THAT) WHEN LOVE COMES HOME IT WILL BE TO STAY
    SOLO
    CHORUS
    V3
AND SO THIS VOID INSIDE MY HEART
WILL NOT BE FILLED UNTIL I’M STANDING WHERE YOU ARE
AND IN THAT MOMENT I WALK THROUGH THE DOOR
    WHEN YOU’RE IN MY ARMS
    IT WILL HURT NO MORE

    LOVE IS COURAGEOUS
    LOVE IS STRONG
LOVE IS THE LEGACY WE LEAVE WHEN WE ARE GONE
AND WHEN IT’S OVER OURS WILL SAY
    WHEN LOVE CAME HOME
    IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT

LOVE CAME HOME AND IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT

      hey there,
I listened to this debut of the song this morning and of course it brought tears that I tried to hold back. I would love to play the guitar and sing this song my upcoming wedding this coming November. If its not too much to ask, would it be possible to receive the tabs or chords for the song, “I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Thanks a lot and God Bless

      -Jayson

The song touched my heart….I was crying on my way to work, messing up my make-up. Great song. Thank you!!

This song blessed me so much today! I cant wait to buy it at iTunes!

Sometimes I get caught up with the hurts, bitterness, and the ordinary boring unexciting stuff. But your song “I wouldn’t change a thing” taught me about my marriage as perfectly imperfect & so crazy but it’s worth it!

Thanks Matt for reminding me about LOVE, DEVOTION, and COMMITMENT in my married life. And how much I love my hubby! :)

It’s truly the next greatest love song!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. And remember, Jesus is the greatest expression of love for us from the Father!

    5. 5. Nicci Presgrove commented:

I wasn’t up at 7:30 this morning, but because your songs have touched so many people they have posted it on Facebook. So therefore, I went and searched it. While I was listing to “Wouldn’t Change A Thing” I honestly cried at my desk at work. It is truly beautiful, and the story that goes with it is just amazing! When others have faith, and I hear about it, it helps me with my troubles, and lets me know I can make it through them with God on my side.
Your song has truly helped me tremendously! Thanks a million!! =D
      Nicci

I too have been thinking of this song all day long and was waiting for the lyrics. Thanks so much for this song and posting it. I may not have won this contest but this song speaks volumes! Great work Matthew! May God bless!

Absolutely LOVE this song. As soon as I heart it, I went straight to Amazon.com and bought it. I’ve been married 33 years and so much of the song describes how my husband and I feel about each other. I hope you do this again next year! I will definitely submit our story :-)

    8. 8. chelsea alberth commented:

completely in love with this song! heard it this morning and called my boyfriend of 4 years to tell him about it.. thank you matthew west for taking the time to do this and summing up in words what some of us can’t seem to express!

What a wonderful song! I heard “wouldn’t change a thing” on Valentine’s Day and shared the card Matthew offered on facebook with my hubby of almost 10 years. The lyrics to this song are so heartfelt and truthful. Matthew West has so many songs that tug at your heartstrings, this is one of his best. God Bless you.
I never knew what love really was until I opened my bible.

Thankyou for continuing to pen such beautiful songs. God has truly blessed you. My daughters often sing your songs as specials in our worship services. Thank you for being such a blessing to me . I’m sitting here listening to Klove listing to you sing and don’t want to get out of my car.. God Bless you and your family!!

    11. 11. Kay Brouillette commented:

This is so similar to our story, I feel like we won too! My husband and I were snuggled up in bed – crying- this morning as we listened to the debut. ‘Wouldn’t change a thing’ will be the song we play as we renew our vows this April for our 25th Anniversary! Thank you so much for such beautiful music – you are blessed with an amazing gift! Love you!

    12. 12. Beth Evely commented:

I just heard this song today while waiting for my husband to come home from work. We are a military family. My husband just returned from Afghanistan July 2010. My son has a new Biology teacher whose husband is in Iraq. I would like to purchase this CD for her and her family…and also for my family and for Soldiers where my husband works. I have just been elected as the new Family Readiness Group (chairman) I want this to be my mission for Jesus to touch Military Families, I often use music as a tool to witness to others for Christ. When and where can I find this CD?

Thanks so much for using your talents to further Gods Kingdom!

    13. 13. Robert Hederman commented:

What an AMAZING song!!!! I was driving my truck at work today when it played for the first time on KLOVE. It brought me to tears, and put a whole new light on my marriage. This is exaclty how I feel… So much that i wouldn’t change a thing!

    14. 14. Lori Klein commented:

I too am married to an Army soldier. He loves the Lord, he loves our country, he loves soldiers and he loves me. I am grateful to our Lord for him. I remember the day he came home from this war and from other world skirmishes. I know I am complete in Christ but I thank God He thought of me and let me have a little time on this earth to share with my husband even if it is for just a breath of time. Thank you Mr. West for putting into words the longing we share for each other when we are apart. God bless you.

    15. 15. Melissa commented:

I heard “When Love Comes Home” this evening while driving with my girls to a V-day dinner for families with deployed soldiers at our chapel. We’re right in the middle of a year long deployment—so naturally, this song went straight to my heart. Thank you for capturing some of the emotions that military families experience while we’re separated.

    16. 16. Jessica McDonald commented:

Thank you so much for writing the “when love comes home” song. My husband is in Iraq right now, coming home in late March. And when i heard this song tonight on my way home I just lost it. It hit me at such a deep and personal level. Thank you for capturing what we go through, in a beautiful song that means so much to so many people.

    17. 17. Sue B. commented:

I love this song! What great timing to share with someone I love!

    18. 18. Ali commented:

Listieining to when love comes home made me just break down when i heard it, me and my husband who is currently serving in afghanistan and will be home in march, and we have been through our ups and downs and are trying to get through another hard time and i love him with all my heart and this song just hit me so closly…so thank you

    19. 19. Ginny Heisler commented:

I know you wrote this song for one Soldier who wrote a beautiful letter to his wife, but you told our story too. Right now my husband is in the fight of his life, recovering from a brain injury he incurred in Iraq. It has been a long hard road! He’s been in the Army 23 years and we’ve been married 7, when he comes home this time, it’ll be worth every minute of him being gone!

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for writing this song!

    20. 20. Peggi commented:

I heard you read the letter from the soldier in Iraq for whom you wrote the 2nd song. I emailed the lyrics to my daughter whose husband is career military and just returned from his 2nd deployment to Iraq. They have 3 children and of course it had been a challenge but they have both handled the separations so well. I would love for them to hear the story behind the song – will you be publishing that anywhere?

I am really inspired by your music – thank you so much for using your time and talent to encourage and inspire us to love each other as our Father commands.

    21. 21. Karen commented:

Thank you so much for this song!!! February 13th was our 18th anniversary. Someone made the comment she bet we wouldn’t want to relive any one of those years because we have faced job downsizings and chronic illness. I have cried every time I have listened to this song because it has touched my heart so much!!!! As everyone has said it is exactly how I feel. It put into words so beautifully how I wished I had responded to that comment – we are blessed beyond our biggest hopes in this perfectly, inperfect life together. What a gift you have – thank you for using it to bless countless people.

    22. 22. Dean Rhymes commented:

I know I shouldn’t expect anything less than amazing now, with your music and I’m never disappointed. Both songs are brilliant. Thanks Matthew.

    23. 23. Erin C. commented:

I heard “When Love Comes Home” mentioned while I was at work. I came home and looked it up. It was such a blessing to me. My boyfriend is currently deployed and this song just reminded me that it will definitely be worth the wait when he comes back home. Beautiful and thank you!!!

    24. 24. Kaliegh commented:

Thank you so much for writting “When love comes home”. My fiance is in Afghanistan right now and every word in that song describes how we feel. I heard the song for the first time today and I bawled my eyes out. It definitely hits home in every way. I miss him so very much, April 2nd couldn’t come fast enough. Keep up the good work, you definitely know how to touch people’s hearts :)

When Love Comes Home is also a beautiful song and paints such an accurate picutre of how so many military familes must feel. Thank you so much for sharing your belssing with us all and may God bless you!

    27. 27. Jennifer Keeling commented:

I heard When love Comes Home and let me tell you, I sat in the car and cried! I was married to a soldier for 17years. 2 years ago we lost him. As much as this story and this song made my heart ache for him to be here, I realized that he truly is at home now. I wish this couple the best of luck and I also wish all military couples luck as they go through the challenges that military life brings. With God, all things are possible and love CAN conquer all!

    28. 28. Cathy commented:

Your whole CD is ministering to my family right now as we go through a very difficult and challenging time – especially the song “Strong Enough”. Please tell me you will be touring the East Coast – PA or NJ – it would be a tremendous blessing.

My little girl says “Thank you – you do so much good singing. I heard that song “My Own Little World” and you are my best singer ever. I will see you at the concert.”

    29. 29. Gigi Murfitt commented:

Matthew. I was on a writing retreat in Billings, MT away from my husband on Valentines Day this year. I was in line at a drive-through espresso stand when KLOVE played your song “I Wouldn’t Change a Thing” along with the story.

I started crying and could barely pay for my tea. I had to pull over and get my act together. I went back to my sister’s house and downloaded your new album. Oh my. I can’t believe how many songs touched my heart that weekend.

I was scheduled to fly home and hoped to see you when you were here in Seattle but my plane got delayed. So when I returned to Seattle I downloaded ALL your music and have been listening ever since.

Thank you much for allowing me a good cry, or two, or three as God ministered to some broken areas of my heart.

Then my friend Karen Kingsbury announced that you will be on her cruise next year! I’m hoping and praying my family will be on that cruise too. GOD STOP!

God bless your heart as you continue to be used by God to minister to the broken world. I am praying for you and your family.
