Ever heard the saying, “Man plans, God laughs”? Well, that is ringing true in my life these days. I had my whole year planned, and that’s when everything changed! I was going into the studio to record a few tunes to release an EP this spring and wasn’t going to release my next full record until 2013. But while we were in the studio something special began to happen. These few songs were inspired by stories that were sent to me back when I was making The Story of Your Life. I was reminded of just how powerful the stories are that everyone sent and God began to put it on my heart that maybe it wasn’t quite time to move on to something different yet…

In the months since The Story of Your Life was released, a phenomenal thing began happening. We stopped collecting stories all the way back in 2010 when I finished making the record, but the stories haven’t stopped coming in. Most nights after concerts I walk back to the bus with a stack of handwritten stories that people deliver to me after the show. Many of the people say things like, “I know you’re done collecting stories, but I want you to read mine.” At my website, we continue to receive about a hundred stories a week. Well, I’m no Albert Einstein, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that maybe, just maybe, there are more stories that need to be told.

So, I’ve decided to officially begin collecting stories again. For one month, there will be a link at my website where you can submit your story. You can write about anything. Your faith, your fears, the best day of your life, or the worst. You can write about your family, your enemies, your secrets, whatever. Even if you are reading this and thinking, ‘my story isn’t worth telling,’ write about THAT! The only rule is, be HONEST. Be honest with yourself. Use this as a chance to stop for a moment and do a little assessment of your life and the story you are telling with it. Too often we get so caught up in the doing, that we never really stop long enough to ask ourselves why we are doing what we do or if our stories are heading where we want them to.

If you wonder how this whole thing works and you haven’t heard my record “The Story of Your Life,” I encourage you to get that record, listen to the songs, and read the stories that inspired them. You can also watch videos at my website that go further into the stories that inspired all the songs. The goal here is to encourage all of us to bring our stories out into the light in the hopes that God could use our story to help someone else. What good is your story if it remains untold? So, here’s a chance for you to tell yours.

One more thing, when you submit your story I want to give you a free download of my song, “The Story of Your Life.” Listen to the words of this song even as you write, and hear the question it poses. “Is This the end or only the beginning?” I hope this song and the experience of writing your story down can serve as a challenge to remember that every day is a chance to change your story, to allow God to lead you into the greater story you were meant to tell. This is the story of YOUR life, and it’s a story worth telling!

About Royal Tailor:
With a contagious blend of pop, R&B, hip hop and rock, Royal Tailor is a high-energy band and music ministry reaching out to a new generation of students suffering from symptoms of a visionless life. The four-member band — made up of Tauren (lead singer), DJ (guitar), Blake (bass) and Jarrod (drums) — met while in school in Indianapolis and began to hone its sound while playing for churches and youth groups around the country. In just under two years, Royal Tailor has performed more than 300 shows, most recently playing at the Nashville GRAMMY Chapter’s Block Party stage alongside artists including Old Crow Medicine Show and The Civil Wars.

Produced by Aaron Lindsey, Chuck Butler, and Daniel Kinner, Black & White showcases Royal Tailor’s distinctive musical blend, highlighting influences that range from Bruno Mars to Maroon 5 to Michael Jackson. The result is 11 high-energy tracks that make audiences want to dance, pray, shout and sing along. Royal Tailor is currently debuting new music from Black & White on the road, having just wrapped up the 20-city “The Overcome Tour,” which also featured Fireflight, After Edmund and Hyland.
About Lindsay McCaul:
There’s a phrase often heard in music industry circles: “It all begins with a song.” That motto carries extra weight in Christian music where a great lyric transcends entertainment and becomes a vehicle to share the gospel. Lindsay McCaul is an artist keenly aware of words and their value. From her teen years pouring over the lyrics of her favorite music to her college days majoring in linguistics at Moody Bible Institute, McCaul’s gifts manifest themselves in vibrant, insightful songs crafted with thoughtful precision reflecting a compassionate heart and deep intellect.

McCaul’s 11-track debut If It Leads Me Back, produced by Jason Ingram (Tenth Avenue North, Meredith Andrews), reveals considerable depth and pathos; keen songwriting paired with her shimmering voice only compels the listener deeper into the album’s overall experience. If It Leads Me Back is an auspicious beginning from a talented newcomer whose music will leave a lasting impression. Audiences nationwide will experience Lindsay live on both the fall 2011 and spring 2012 legs of the Casting Crowns “Come To The Well” tour.

Thanks to the NEW YORK TIMES for their review of Matthew’s new Christmas CD:

The Christian singer-songwriter Matthew West has a Bublé-ish vim on the standards he tackles here: “Jingle Bells,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” a spry new arrangement of “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” But this album, one of the year’s most inventive holiday releases, is made up mainly of Mr. West’s originals, and is far better for it. He’s a vivid and compelling songwriter, with refreshing approaches to the familiar. “One Last Christmas” is about having an early celebration as a gift to a dying child, the 1950s-esque “Come On, Christmas” is about the thrills of anticipation, and “Leaving Heaven” is a Ray LaMontagne-style folk burner told from Jesus’ perspective. On the album closer “Day After Christmas,” Mr. West opens with what sounds like cause for moping: “Here comes the letdown, Christmas is over / Here comes the meltdown, there goes the cheer.” And yet this turns out to be one of the album’s most optimistic songs: “Happy day after Christmas / Merry rest of the year.” (Sparrow, $8.67)

Nashville, Tenn. Oct. 4, 2011… GRAMMY ® nominee Matthew West is debuting his first, full-length holiday project today, October 4, titled The Heart of Christmas. The 12 song record features an equal mix of Christmas classics and original holiday tunes penned by West. Fellow GRAMMY ® winners and nominees join West on the album including Vince Gill in “Leaving Heaven,” Amy Grant on “Give This Christmas Away” and Mandisa for “Christmas Makes Me Cry.” The Heart of Christmas was produced by Pete Kipley (MercyMe, Kristin Chenoweth). To purchase The Heart of Christmas on iTunes ®, visit http://bit.ly/oixmMH.

“Since the beginning of my career, I’ve dreamed of making a Christmas album,” explains West, “and I’m so excited to finally get that chance this year! The Heart of Christmas is a collection of original songs I’ve written, and some of my favorite classics. I was honored to have iconic artists like Amy Grant, Vince Gill, and Mandisa from American Idol join me on a few of the songs, and those are personal highlights for me.”

The Heart of Christmas movie will premiere on gmc Sunday, December 4 at 7 p.m. ET. This gmc World Premiere Movie was inspired by the true story of Dax Locke, the two year old from Washington, Illinois, whose struggle with Leukemia sparked a worldwide outpouring of support for his family and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The story inspired a “Decorate for Dax” campaign where thousands in the community of Central Illinois decorated their houses for Dax for Christmas- even though it was October. West wrote the hit song “One Last Christmas” as a tribute to Dax and his family. Candice Cameron Bure (Make It or Break It, Full House), George Newbern (Father of the Bride, Justice League) and Jeanne Neilson (Faith Like Potatoes) star. West also makes an appearance in the film as Mark Hurtgen.

In support of The Heart of Christmas, the album’s title track will be released to radio along with a music video, and West will embark on a Christmas tour with Mandisa in the month of December, details and tour dates will be announced soon.

Additionally, West just scored his fourth No. 1 hit with “Strong Enough” which is now No. 1 at AC Monitored. He will be headlining “The Story of Your Life Tour,” and will be featured on the Winter Jam tour this fall. For all tour information, visit www.MatthewWest.com
